Sweden’s Armand ‘Mondo’ Duplantis on Tuesday, August 12 once again went on to etch history as he improved on his previous pole vault world record. Appearing in the Gyulai Istvan Hungarian Athletics Grand
Prix 2025 in Budapest, the Swedish international went on to break the pole vault record for the 13th time with a jump of 6.29 metres.
Duplantis who soared over the bar - broke the record on his second attempt, surpassing his previous best of 6.28m from Stockholm in June 2025. The Olympic champion, who breached the mark with a 6.25m jump for the gold, continued to leapfrog his own records, breaching the 6.28m mark by a centimentre on Tuesday.

Mondo, as he is fondly called, first leaped past the world record in 2020 when he cleared 6.17m in Torun, Poland, bettering Renaud Lavillenie’s 6.14m from 2014. While his best came in 2024 Paris Olympics with 6.25m, he has so far bettered the record four times since then.
Breaking the record for the 13th time now, he has equalled Sergey Bubka from erstwhile Soviet Union, who too has broken the world record more number of times (13). The 25-year-old Swedish-American will now be eyeing his third consecutive outdoor world title in a month’s time when he appears at the World Athletics event in Tokyo.
