In recent times, there has been a lot of debate and speculation regarding future of Rohit Sharma in the Indian Cricket team. The Indian ODI skipper has already retired from the T20Is and Tests respectively
and is expected to be back in action in the ODI series against Australia in October this year. However, the main concern among fans is whether Rohit will play for India till the ODI World Cup 2027 or not.
Currently, there are several reports coming that the BCCI is not considering Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohliin the plans for the next ODI World Cup in South Africa. However, former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh feels that Rohit should till 45 years of age as India would need him for a few more years in the 50-over format.
Rohit, we need you for five more years: Yograj Singh
In his recent interview with News18 CricketNext, Yograj Singh said that India would need Rohit Sharma for the five more years and he should run 10 kilometres a day to maintain his fitness. Rohit was last seen in action during the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2025. However, his last outing for India was during the Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand in Dubai on March 9 this year.
“The man about whom so many people speak rubbish, Rohit Sharma — I said that day that Rohit will be my man, the man, my man. The way he batted, his batting one side and the rest of the team’s batting on the other side. That’s his class. You can say, ‘Rohit, aapki hume 5 saal aur zarurat hai yaar’ (Rohit, we need you for five more years, man) so please do more for your country, work on your fitness and everything,” Yograj Singh told News18 CricketNext.
“Put four men on him, make him run 10 kilometres every morning. He has the class to play till 45 years of age, if he wants,” he further added.
