The camaraderie between Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri is not hidden from cricket fans. The duo recorded some massive success as captain and coach from 2017 to 2021. In 2019, when India won their maiden
Test series on Australian soil, it was their leadership. After seven years of that famous success, Kohli is now active in the ODI format only and Shastri often discusses in the media what the veteran should do to play Cricket World Cup 2027 for India. In the third ODI against Australia in Sydney, Kohli scored 74* off 81 after accumulating a couple of ducks.
Riding on Virat Kohli’s knock along with Rohit Sharma’s 121* off 125, India chased down 237 runs and bagged a nine-wicket win. After the match, Kohli and Rohit spoke with Shastri and ex-Australia cricketer Adam Gilchrist. During the chat, when Gilchrist asked Kohli and Rohit about their potential participation in Cricket World Cup 2027, both players didn’t say anything but later the Delhi-born batter said “No. We want to say thank you as well.” During Kohli’s response, Shastri looked tensed as if he was surmising about Kohli's ODI retirement announcement. However, following the 36-year-old’s reply, Shastri looked relieved.
"We loved coming to this country and playing in front of such a big crowd. We played some of our best cricket here. Thank you so much for welcoming us here so well. You guys are brilliant, and we never felt short of support here,” added Kohli.
Virat Kohli’s next international assignment
Virat Kohli’s next international assignment will be against South Africa in the three-match ODI series, set to be played from November 30 to December 6. The matches will be played in Jharkhand, Raipur and Visakhapatnam.
The Proteas will aim to win an ODI series on Indian soil after 10 years and Team India supporters will want veterans Kohli and Rohit to shine with their bats and neutralise the visiting side’s plans.
