There are bowlers who are called great, especially nowadays, perhaps an exercise of passion, but one that may not always seem apt.
For sure, it’s a free world. Everybody is entitled to their opinion, but
just what constitutes a great? In a game, which has become ever so batting inclined with several rules arguably speaking, favoured towards batters, powerplay and impact player substitution rule as most commonly seen in the IPL, hasn’t the bowlers job become even more difficult than what’s the fan, seeing the game from the comfort of his zone perceives?
And if some of that, just some of that is true or pointing to something which we must consider as a grave challenge of the times, then it’s fair to say the phrase great bowler must be chosen carefully.
For if not, then it would be a bit of a service to those who genuinely combine Grid and talent, and not to forget the appetite to serve whenever needed. Against that narrative, it makes sense to call Jasprit Bumrah and all farm at great in the Art of Fast bowling.
