The Indian skipper quickly responded with folded hands, urging fans to not chant “Mumbai cha raja Rohit Sharma”. Although the videos of the moment have been making rounds on social media, the reaction of the Indian stalwart has also him earned praise as Lord Ganesha is often reckoned and hailed as Mumbai cha raja, which implies to ‘King of Mumbai’.
However, the feats that Rohit Sharma has achieved during his cricketing career, including his IPL heroics has often garnered him with this praise. While Sharma remains one of the captains to win five IPL trophies as Mumbai Indians (MI) captain, he has also etched his name in record books in international cricket. With only one match shy of playing 500 international matches for Team India, he is on the cusp of joining the likes of some Indian greats in the list. If he does so, he’ll become only the fifth Indian cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar (664), Virat Kohli (550*), MS Dhoni (535) and Rahul Dravid (504) in the elite list.
