Pacer JaspritBumrah's workload management has faced criticism from another former Team India stalwart. Ex-India skipper Mohammad Azharuddin has berated the star speedster for his limited outings in the Anderson-Tendulkar
Trophy 2025. In the illustrious red-ball series against England, Bumrah showed up in only three off five contests. The 31-year-old didn't play at Edgbaston and The Oval but his absence didn't affect India as the visitors won the game at both venues and eventually succeeded in levelling the five-match competition. Mohammed Siraj shone with the ball in both games and played a crucial part in both notable triumphs.
In a chat with Mid-Day, Azharuddin criticised Bumrah's approach in the recently-concluded series and said that a player should be geared up to play every game during an assignment he is selected for. "If there is an injury issue, then the Board and the player have to decide. However, I feel once you are in the team, you can’t pick and choose your matches. There is workload, but at this level, you have to manage it. You are playing for the country,” he added. “What happens if India needs Bumrah badly in a particular situation?” said Azharuddin.
Jasprit Bumrah's availability for the Asia Cup 2025
Team India's next assignment is in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where the Asia Cup 2025 will be played. Bumrah is likley to be available for the continental competition after resting for more than a month. India's fast-bowling spearhead played his last T20I match against South Africa in the T20 World 2024 final played in Barbados on June 29.
However, he was active in competitive T20 with his appearance for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Donning MI jersey, he clinched 18 wickets in 12 matches at a thrifty economy of 6.67.
