Mitchell Starc recently brought curtains down to his glorious T20 International (T20I) career to focus on his Test and One-Day Internationals (ODI) careers. In his distinguished career, he won the T20 World
Cup 2021 with his national side in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Six months ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026, Starc’s decision to hang up his boots from the shortest form of the sport has stunned cricket supporters. Australia’s T20I skipper Mitchell Marsh will now look to fill Starc’s boots with an efficient pacer who can deliver him wickets in early stages of the innings.
A couple of days after his T20I retirement, Starc spoke to cricket.com.au and revealed that he didn’t inform Marsh about the decision. “I did let them know, I did not ask them. I spoke to Ronnie (Andrew McDonald) and then told the two of them that I was done. Yeah, that was about it. I probably should have rang Mitchy. I felt bad because he texted me and said he found out through Instagram. So, I felt bad about that one. Sorry, Mitchy. Didn't tell the captain," said Starc.
Mitchell Starc also revealed his experience of winning T20 World Cup for Australia
Starc also remarked that winning the T20 World Cup 2021 with the Aussies side was a special moment in his career. "To be part of that campaign was really special and with a lot of guys who played a lot of T20 cricket together," added the veteran. In the mega event held in the UAE, he picked up nine wickets in seven matches.
The 35-year-old has said that he will serve Australia in ODIs and he is aiming to serve the side in the Cricket World Cup 2027. "I umm-ed and ahh-ed about which was the right (format) to put to the side. If I wasn't going to be in the frame for 2027, then I didn't want to hold up the spot. I still feel like I've got plenty to offer that ODI team," concluded the star speedster.
