Team Indiagot an injury scare ahead of the Asia Cup 2025 contest against Pakistan in Dubai on September 14. A day before the game, when the Men in Blue attended a practice session, their star top-order
batter and vice-captain Shubman Gill got struck on the hand. Gill will be crucial for India in the ongoing continental tournament. His job is to deliver rapid starts to the team as an opener with Abhishek Sharma. In the previous game against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on September 10, Gill looked magnificent with his bat and scored a quick 20 off nine. It was his first T20I game after 13 months.
As per a Times of India (TOI) report, Shubman Gillwas seen in pain after he got hit by the ball. He left the pitch after being attended by the team physio. The report also read, "Captain Suryakumar Yadav and head coach Gautam Gambhir were spotted speaking with Gill after the incident, while teammate Abhishek Sharma stayed by his side and even helped him open a water bottle. The physio continued to monitor Gill as the session went on." However, the report also claimed that the 26-year-old resumed training after a few minutes.
Shubman Gill’s T20I numbers for India
Shubman Gill has played 22 T20Is for India in his six-year international career. He has scored 598 runs with a hundred and three fifties at a strike rate of 141.03. Last year, he failed to make it to India’s T20I World Cup 2024 squad. In the Asia Cup 2025, he will look to showcase his batting mettle to solidify his spot in the T20I team.
Against Pakistan, he has never played any T20I match but in ODIs, his record has been impressive. In four ODIs against the Men in Green, he has scored 130 runs with a fifty in four matches at an average of 32.5. In the upcoming high-octane game on Sunday, his rivalry with Shaheen Shah Afridi may give delight to the eyes of ardent cricket supporters.
