On Sunday, November 2, the Indian women’s cricket team etched history as they lifted their maiden ODI World Cup, beating South Africa Women by 52 runs in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 final in Navi
Mumbai. After putting 298 in their stipulated 50 overs, the Women in Blue defended the total as they restricted the Protean side at 246 in 45.3 overs, courtesy an all-round performance by Deepti Sharma.
While this was one of the greatest victories by the Women in Blue, it was a hard day for their opponents, who despite putting a fight with Laura Wolvaardt’s 101, failed to go past the chase, falling short by 52 runs. However, the Indian camp burst into celebrations with a key win in Navi Mumbai, there were tears in the Protean camp with some of them playing their final game in the ODI World Cups.

Among them was Marizanne Kapp, who played her final Cricket World Cup game on Sunday. However, Kapp did not open up on the same, but the tears in her eyes prior to the start of the game spoke volumes of what could be her final WC performance. Seeing the result go India’s way, the veteran Protean player was seen in tears. Seeing Kapp in distraught, Jemimah Rodrigues and Radha Yadav were seen consoling her, videos of which have been making rounds.

It is to be noted that Kapp featured in her fifth ODI World Cup, where she went wicketless and managed just four runs. Moreover, the gesture by Jemimah and Radha came as Kapp plays alongside them in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) for Delhi Capitals Women, playing key roles in all three editions thus far.
Speaking of Marizanne Kapp’s performance in Women’s CWC 2025, with the ball she produced a sensation role in the semi-final, taking five wickets in her seven overs. With this, she also surpassed Jhulan Goswami to become all-time leading wicket-taker in Women’s WC history. Overall, across 31 WC matches, Kapp picked 44 wickets and has scored 659 runs.
