East Zone lifted the Duleep Trophy after 13 years and their captain Ishan Kishan engaged in light-hearted banter with teenaged batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi over taking credit for successful Decision
Review System (DRS) calls during the final against South Zone. They were sitting in the dugout in matching blue training kits, and the winner’s medal around his neck, arm casually around the younger player’s shoulder.
The video posted by BCCI on social media platforms have gone viral with fans enjoying the banter between these two players. Ishan Kishan playfully talked about how the 15 year old “Even though I was about to take the review, he would come and say it so confidently, ‘I’ll come to you.’ Then the internet will be like Vaibhav! My goodness! Vaibhav is the one!)” he said in the video. The 15 year old was quick to reply back saying “Aur jab field ke bahar jaa rahe the tab kon le raha tha review? Yeh bhi toh bata dijiye.”

The conversation continued with Kishan letting him know that he could be a future captain. “Haan, that was Vaibhav himself! Yes. Future captain, maybe? Let’s see how it goes. But it’s very good to have him in the team because more than a very good player, he’s a very nice boy who takes care of each and every one in the team, whether it’s a junior player or senior.”
At the same time, Kishan was quick to add, “Achha, junior toh tu hi hua. That is one quality which I love about him. Hopefully, he’ll be more dangerous than what he is today. I think it’s not going to be his first or the last. I think he’s gonna play many more like this, and he’ll keep performing the way he’s doing right now,” he added. While the youngster said that he enjoyed watching the East Zone captain take on the bowlers and smash a double century in the Duleep Trophy Final.
East Zone Win Duleep Trophy After 13 Years
East Zone finally ended a long wait and lifted the Duleep Trophy again which is their third title overall and first since the 2012-13 season. Under Ishan Kishan’s captaincy they completely dominated the final against South Zone at Chepauk in Chennai, sealing the win on first-innings lead after the match ended in a draw. Everything was built on a massive first-innings total of 708. Kishan himself played a captain’s knock of 270, Kumar Kushagra scored a century, and the side never really let South Zone back into the contest. South were bowled out for 336, leaving East with a commanding 372-run lead. On the final day East declared their second innings at 388 for 7 with Md Kounain Quraishi making a fine unbeaten 116 on only his second first-class appearance and the East Zone captain scored another 80 and walked away with the trophy.
Ishan Kishan finished the final with a match total of 350 runs and was named Player of the Match. Across the tournament he topped the run charts with 409. Young talents around him had a brilliant tournament with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as vice-captain, the Jharkhand players including Kushagra, Quraishi and others, and solid contributions from the bowling unit led by Mukesh Kumar and Shami.. After 13 years without the title, East Zone are champions again and the smiles in that post-match chat between Kishan and Sooryavanshi showed just how much they enjoyed this Final.
