Five-time IPLchampions Mumbai Indians (MI) seemingly took a subtle dig at Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) with an X post that involved their former captain Rohit Sharma on Thursday, October 30. Recently, some
reports claimed that Rohit Sharma might move to KKR before IPL 2026. This year, Rohit struggled to be among the runs in the initial phase of IPL 2025 but when he found the form, he looked sensational and ended up as the second-leading run-getter for the franchise in the season, with 418 runs in 15 matches at a strike rate of 149.28.
In the latest development, MIconfirmed that Rohit isn’t joining any other IPL team, including the three-time champion side KKR. Taking to X, MI also mocked Kolkata with the reformed version of SRK's movie Don and wrote, “Sun will rise tomorrow again ye toh confirm hai, but at (K)night… मुश्किल ही नहीं, नामुमकिन है!”
It was on October 29 when KKRdropped a congratulatory social media post on Rohit as the 38-year-old became the oldest No. 1 ODI batter in ICC rankings. KKR’s post grabbed the attention of the media and fans and reports started making rounds in the media. “Top of the world and well deserved. Congratulations, Rohit,” they wrote on X.
Rohit Sharma was in exceptional touch with bat in recent ODIs in Australia
Rohit Sharma’s magnificent performances during the Australia ODI series has helped him to become the number one batter in ICC ODI rankings. With 202 runs with a hundred and one fifty in three matches, he ended up as the highest run-scorer and the player of the series.
Before IPL 2026, Rohit is expected to play only six international matches, all in ODI format. MI will want the veteran to be at his best to enter IPL 2026 confidently. Rohit’s next assignment will be against South Africa from November 30 to December 6. His responsibility will be to continue his superb form to help India contain the Proteas from winning the ODI series on Indian soil after 11 years.
