Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi once again reminded everyone why he is one of Indian cricket’s most exciting young talents. In the Duleep Trophy final against South Zone at the MA Chidambaram Stadium
in Chennai, the East Zone opener produced a thrilling start to the match with aggressive batting. Facing India pacer Mohammed Siraj early in the innings, the left hander batter smashed a four, followed it up with a six and then another four as he raced off to a quick start. He cut the first one past point, and then smashed a powerful six down the ground, and another boundary over mid-off.

He took 14 runs of the over and forced Siraj out of the attack. The teenager’s intent was excellent as he treated a senior international fast bowler with the same freedom he shows in white-ball cricket. Sooryavanshi finished with a brisk 44 off 37 balls including five fours and one six before falling to a short ball from Chama V Milind, caught by a substitute fielder while attempting another big shot. He walked off six runs short of a fifty, visibly disappointed, yet his innings had already set the tone. Opening with Abhimanyu Easwaran, he helped put on a 100-run stand in just 14.4 overs, giving East Zone a flying start after they chose to bat.
Mohammed Siraj Goes Wicketless as East Zone Take Control Against South Zone
East Zone won the toss and elected to bat on a pitch that offered early moisture but looked hard and good for batting.. Sooryavanshi and Easwaran dominated the opening session and put on a partnership off 100 within 15 overs before Sooryavanshi’s dismissal at 100 for 1. Easwaran went on to score a solid 72 off 86 balls including ten fours and a six before being run out due to a horrible mixup which left East Zone at 133 for 2 after 27 overs at lunch. South Zone’s bowling attack which was strengthened by the inclusion of Siraj struggled for early breakthroughs.
The Indian pacer finished his first spell with expensive figures going at more than 8 runs per over in his first five overs. Chama Milind claimed the only wicket of the morning while the second one was from a run-out. Shikhar Mohan has completed his half-century and the East Zone have made strong progress since Lunch. They will be looking to put on a big score in the first innings as the pitch is good for batting. Mohammad Siraj has struggled in this match conceding 65 runs in his ten overs without picking up a wicket.
