Barcelona have made a sensational start to the 2026-27 La Liga season, equalling a 58-year-old record after securing their ninth consecutive victory with a commanding 5-2 win over Real Betis on Saturday.
Under head coach Hansi Flick, the Catalan giants have continued to demonstrate their attacking strength and consistency, establishing themselves as early favourites in the Spanish league title race.
The historic achievement puts Barcelona alongside arch-rivals Real Madrid, who won their first nine league matches during the 1968-69 season. Flick’s side have now matched that remarkable milestone and will have an opportunity to surpass it in their next La Liga fixture.
Barcelona’s attacking brilliance shines against Real Betis
Barcelona produced an impressive performance at the Estadio La Cartuja in Seville, overcoming a determined Real Betis side to maintain their perfect league record. Lamine Yamal opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a superb finish before Real Betis responded through Valentin Gomez.
Rodri restored Barcelona’s advantage before half-time, while Gabriel Jesus extended the lead shortly after the break. Real Betis attempted to fight back through Ez Abde, but Facundo Bernal’s dismissal reduced the hosts to 10 men and made Barcelona’s task considerably easier.
Eric Garcia added another goal before substitute Dani Olmo completed the scoring in the 81st minute, sealing an emphatic away victory for the visitors.
Barcelona’s remarkable numbers underline their dominance
Barcelona’s perfect start has been accompanied by extraordinary attacking statistics. The club have scored 39 goals in their opening nine La Liga matches while conceding just nine, highlighting their effectiveness in both attack and defence.
The result also strengthened Barcelona’s position at the top of the league standings, taking their tally to 27 points. Their ability to maintain such a high level of performance across the opening weeks has reinforced the belief that Flick’s team can mount a serious challenge for the Spanish league title.
El Clasico could bring another historic moment
Barcelona’s attention will now turn towards their highly anticipated El Clasico clash against Real Madrid. With another victory, the Blaugrana can establish a new record by winning their first 10 matches of a La Liga season.
The upcoming encounter offers Flick’s team an opportunity to turn an already historic campaign into an even more memorable one, although Real Madrid will be determined to prevent their rivals from claiming the record outright.
