On this day, April 12,2023: Ravichandran Ashwin all round show as Rajasthan Royals beat Chennai Super Kings by three runs. It was the 17th match of the Indian Premier League 2023 between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals.
It was RR who were batting first and they lost the wicket of Jaiswal cheaply. Jos Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal put up a good partnership to bring RR right back in the game. Buttler went past his half century and it was a terrific knock from the seasoned player.
Devdutt Padikkal lost his wicket after scoring 38 runs and Sanju Samson also fell in the same over for a duck as Rajasthan Royals went from 88/1 to 88/3 in the same over. Ravichandran Ashwin was promoted and played a good cameo of 30 runs from 22 balls as Rajasthan Royals recovered. Shimron Hetmyer provided them with the finishing touches smashing 30 runs off 18 balls as Rajasthan Royals finished with 175/8 at the end of the first innings. Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers for CSK as he delivered for the team with 2 wickets.
It was a par score on that surface and in the chase, Chennai Super Kings lost the wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad early. Ajinkya Rahane along with Devon Conway put up a good partnership to bring CSK back in the game. Conway scored a half century before getting dismissed. The RR spinners picked up wickets as well as contained the scoring rate as CSK were put under pressure.
Ravi Ashwin picked up two wickets and Chennai Super Kings were in all sorts of trouble in the chase. Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni took the game deep and kept Chennai Super Kings alive in the chase but they fell short in the end by just 3 runs as RR picked up the win. It was a nail-biting contest and Ravi Ashwin with his all-round performance was the player of the match
