Messi then took centre stage after the interval. He subsequently beat an Atlanta defender and calmly finished with his left foot to double Inter Miami’s advantage.
Just four minutes later, Messi struck again with another outstanding piece of individual brilliance. Suarez played a perfectly weighted pass into space, allowing Messi to race towards goal. The Inter Miami captain showed remarkable composure, manoeuvred past a defender and slotted the ball into the net to make it 3-0.
Atlanta United managed to score a late consolation through Fafa Picault’s penalty in the 89th minute, but Inter Miami comfortably held on for a 3-1 win.
