Rajasthan Royals (RR) failed to deliver desired results to their supporters with their poor performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Under Sanju Samson’s captaincy, Royals could win only four
off 14 matches and ended their campaign in the ninth spot on the points table. RR skipper Samson also struggled to be dominating with his bat in the season, scoring only 285 runs in nine matches. Following the disappointing season, reports emerged that Samson has no intention to be with RR the next season. Amidst these reports, RR dropped a cryptic post which alluded that Dhruv Jurel could be handed the responsibility.
Jurel recently appeared on Vivek Sethia’s YouTube channel and spoke on RR’s captaincy conundrum. "What I would say is that whatever role I get from Rajasthan Royals doesn’t matter, because they gave me an opportunity when I especially needed it, when I had to show my talent on a big platform. I would say Rajasthan Royals changed my life. They gave me the chance to showcase my ability. So it doesn’t matter whether I get the captaincy or not. From my side, I want to give 2000% for Rajasthan Royals,” said Jurel.
Jurel also revealed the thought process of his and his teammates for RR. "I want to win the championship. Me, Riyan, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju bhai, all of us feel the same way and we have the potential to do it. So our thought process always revolves around how we can win the championship. Whoever becomes captain, our goal is the same, we want to win the championship. And for that, we will do whatever it takes." added Jurel.
Dhruv Jurel’s performance in IPL 2025
In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Dhruv Jurel played 14 games and scored 333 runs in 13 innings at a strike rate of 156.33. The wicket-keeper batter is a part of India’s stand-by list for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, set to be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from September 9 to 28.
His RR teammates Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag are also among India’s five stand-by players for the continental tournament. Jurel’s last international game for Team India came against England in The Oval Test match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025.
