Kolkata Knight Riders have revived their interest in Hardik Pandya and are looking at an opportunity to solve the leadership role left by Ajinkya Rahane’s retirement. The all-rounder’s second captaincy
spell at Mumbai Indians has not been good, yet his credentials as a captain who guided Gujarat Titans to the title in their first season continue to hold strong appeal for Shah Rukh Khan’s franchise.
As per reports from Telegraph, KKR had earlier stepped back after initial discussions, largely because of lingering doubts over Pandya’s fitness and the size of the group that travels with him. Those reservations appear to have eased and the franchise now believes his strategic instincts and on-field presence could give the side the direction it currently lacks.

The big question: Will KKR sacrifice two promising Indian players to bring Hardik Pandya on board?

Mumbai Indians are making a hard bargain as they have been asking for fast bowler Harshit Rana and young batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi in return for the trade. The five-time champions are short of a reliable Indian wicketkeeper option, and the 22-year-old Raghuvanshi, who has shown promise both with the bat in domestic cricket and as a developing keeper, could fill that gap while adding a local Mumbai connection to the squad.
KKR face tough decision as Mumbai Indians push for Angkrish Raghuvanshi trade
For KKR giving away Raghuvanshi would be a difficult decision. The youngster has grown under the guidance of head coach Abhishek Nayar, who has long mentored him. The Knights are also firm about protecting their established match-winners. Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy and Rinku Singh remain non-negotiable at this point. Cameron Green has been discussed as a possible alternative, but the Australian’s availability for a full IPL campaign looks uncertain with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and the Ashes both scheduled in the coming months.
Talks are expected to resume this week as the retention deadline of 15 November will come ahead of the mini-auction in Goa on 16 December, and both franchises want clarity before that window closes. Mumbai are also exploring other teams, including interest in Rajasthan Royals’ Yashasvi Jaiswal and spinner Ravi Bishnoi, though little progress has been reported on those fronts. Chennai Super Kings have shown past curiosity about Pandya but cannot offer him the captaincy, a condition that appears important to the all-rounder. For KKR, the chance to hand him the leadership role could prove decisive. The next few days of discussions will reveal how far both sides are willing to go.
