The Indian cricket team is set to return to the field after making their last appearance in 2-2 series draw against England in Tests. The Men in Blue, who will take the field in the upcoming Men’s Asia
Cup 2025, will kickstart their campaign against UAE from Wednesday, September 10 in Dubai. The Indian team will be led by Suryakumar Yadav - the T20I skipper who took the reigns after Rohit Sharma’s retirement from T20Is following the side’s T20 World Cup 2024 win in Barbados. Additionally, Shubman Gill will be his deputy after his successful stint in the red-ball format in the recently-concluded Test series.

Appearing at the post-tournament captain’s press conference, the Indian skipper was inquired of wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson’s participation in their opening game, which will be played on Wednesday at the Dubai International Stadium. While the conundrum around Samson has been going on since his selection in the squad, but reports of his presence in the XI looked bleak after Jitesh Sharma was seen honing his wicketkeeping skills.
Although, the Indian batter remained tight-lipped over his chances of featuring in the XI, he opted to take some humour to it as he replied, “We are taking care of him”. Don’t worry, we will make the right decision tomorrow." The Mumbai batter also hailed the brand of cricket their first opponent, UAE has been playing, while expressing confidence on India’s chances.
"They are playing an exciting brand, they played a tournament recently, they came close. He said (UAE captain) - they didn't cross the line. I hope they do in the Asia Cup. We are excited to play them,” Suryakumar said on playing the UAE.
