Englandveteran Joe Root has looked in exceptional touch with his bat in Tests, this year. In the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, the right-handed batter smashed 537 runs in nine innings of five matches
and ended up as the second-leading run-scorer in the competition. He will be expected to carry his magnificent form in the Ashes 2025/26 to kick off in Australia from November 21. England will aim to win the Test series Down Under after 15 years and Root’s role will be to utilise his experience and prowess to help his team achieve their objective.
Weeks ahead of the Ashesseries, Root appeared at a celebrity padel event in Sheffield on Sky Sports and revealed his preparedness for the series. he said “I feel I’m in a different place than when I last went out there. I haven’t got the responsibility of captaincy, and I’m a lot more experienced now. I’ve had a good couple of years and learned important lessons from previous tours there as both a batter and senior player."
Root has never notched up any Test ton in Australia and a lot of cricket fans are eager to see him pull off that incomplete task. The star English batter feels if he will serve his team efficiently in the marquee series, personal records will be achieved easily. “I’m sure there’ll be a lot of talk about me not scoring a hundred there yet. But I feel ready for it. The big series are the ones you want to play in, and the ones where you want to contribute. You want to create memories with your teammates that you can share for the rest of your lives. If I’m doing my role in the team, then the personal milestones will come. It’s not the main focus— it’s about winning that urn back. It’s been a long time since we held it,” added Root.
Joe Root has played 14 Tests in Australia, in which he has racked up 892 runs with nine fifties in 27 innings. In the Ashes 2021/22 game played in Brisbane, he recorded scored 89 runs which is his best innings Down Under.
As England are expected to bat in bazball style, Root will be a vital cog for the agressive brand of cricket. Against Australia's quality bowling attack, his responsibility will be to step up and play quality knocks for the visitors.
