Who gets the Purple Cap?
The Purple Cap is awarded to the highest wicket-taking bowler in the tournament, including the league stage and playoffs. The Purple Cap keeps getting tossed around the country, changing heads as the Purple Cap wearer is given the cap during the match while he is fielding if they lead the wicket-taking charts. The final winner is the player who ends the tournament with the highest wickets at the commencement of the IPL. If two or more bowlers end the season with the same number of wickets, the winner is decided by:
Superior Economy Rate: the bowler who has conceded fewer runs per over throughout the tournament is ranked higher and awarded the cap.
The first bowler to don this cap was Sohail Tanveer in IPL’s first season, by taking 22 wickets in the tournament. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Dwayne Bravo, and Harshal Patel have the record of winning the cap the most seasons (2 each). The recent winner was the GT player, Prasidh Krishna, who took 25 wickets in the entire tournament.
