Former India captain MS Dhoni is likely to be seen working with the India Cricket team against in a role. The recent reports by CricBlogger suggested that the BCCIhas offered Dhoni to become a mentor of Team
India for the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2026. The tournament will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
Notably, MS Dhoni has also served as mentor of Team India in the T20 World Cup 2021 with Virat Kohli as captain and Ravi Shastri as Head Coach. However, it turned out to be a forgettable outing for the Men in Blue as they were knocked out from the group stage. Now, after five years, Dhoni has been reportedly offered to mentor Team India again as they head into the upcoming T20 World Cup as defending champions.
Will MS Dhoni accept the offer to mentor Team India in T20 World Cup 2026?
Although the BCCI has reportedly offered MS Dhoni to mentor Team India in the next T20 World Cup, it is unlikely that he will accept the offer. However, if Dhoni accepts the offer, he will be seen working with Gautam Gambhiri, who is currently the Head Coach of the Indian team. It can turn out to be an exciting chain of events as once Gambhir used to play under Dhoni’s captaincy and now Dhoni can be seen working under Gambhir if he accepts the offer.
However, there is no official confirmation on whether the BCCI has offered Dhoni to mentor India or whether he will accept the offer or not. However, Gambhir's guidance can turn out to be beneficial for the Indian team for the upcoming T20 World Cup. India ended up winning the previous T20 World Cup title in 2024 under Rohit Sharma's captaincy. After the World Cup win, senior players like Rohit, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirements from the T20I format.
