Tom Latham has quietly built an impressive record as captain of New Zealand across formats, combining calm leadership with consistent results. The left-handed opener has led the Black Caps in 72 international
matches, winning 42, losing 28, while two games ended without a result, giving him an overall win percentage of 58.33. In Test cricket, Latham has captained New Zealand in 16 matches, recording eight wins, seven defeats and one draw. He was appointed New Zealand's full-time Test captain in October 2024 after Tim Southee stepped down. New Zealand produced a superb all-round performance to defeat England by 160 runs in the third and final Test at Trent Bridge, sealing the three-match series 2-1. Chasing a daunting target of 373, England resumed the final day on 103/4 but were bowled out for just 212 as the visitors completed a famous victory.
