On Tuesday, September 22, the Indian men’s hockey team put up a remarkable display of goal-hitting skills to crush Sri Lanka with a 16-1 win in the Asian Games 2026. The Pool A match saw three Indian players
recording a hat-trick each, including the likes of dragflicker Jugraj Singh, and strikers Abhishek as well as Dilpreet Singh. Notably, they had opened their campaign in the ongoing continental tournament with a 13-1 win over Indonesia.
In Tuesday’s clash, Jugraj found the net in the 10th, 22nd, 42nd and 53rd minutes, while Abhishek’s goals came in the 11th, 17th, and the 49th minute. On the other hand, Dilpreet Singh recorded his hattrick with goals in the 30th, 38th, and the 55th minutes. Apart from them, skipper Harmanpreet Singh came up with two goals- in the 16th and the 45th minute. Mandeep Singh, Sukhjeet Singh, Manpreet Singh, and Vivek Sagar Prasad had their goals in the 5th, 29th, 31st, and the 36th minutes, respectively.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka had a forgetful day on the court, and their only goal in the game came from Suresh Rathnayake in the 50th minute. This also marked their first ever goal in Asian Games history.

Defending Champions Get off to Strong Start; Carry Onslaught Throughout the Game
The Defending Champions, under the leadership of Harmanpreet Singh, got off to a strong start against Sri Lanka and controlled the momentum of the game throughout the 60 minutes. The Indians kicked off their onslaught right from the fifth minute as Mandeep Singh scored with an assist from Abhishek.

Five minutes later, Jugrag doubled the count with a powerful dragflick from a set piece. Abhishek quickly followed him, and added his name to the scoresheet in the next minute with a fine goal.
This was not it! Skipper Harmanpreet Singh converted a penalty corner in the 16th minute before Abhishek registered his second goal of the day just a minute later. In the 22nd minute, Jugraj converted another penalty corner to give the side an easy 6-9 lead.

Following up were goals from Sukhjeet Singh, as well as Dilpreet, who turned in a deflection from Mandeep Singh. India weren’t stopping anytime soon. In the second half, they continued their momentum and three players went on to record their respective hat-trick, to record an easy win over their neighbours. The game also saw Dilpreet record his 50th senior international career goal for India.
In the upcoming game, India will lock horns with South Korea on September 24 at 11:30 am IST.
