Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan has made a big announcement to the Provoke Lifestyle magazine that their legendary player MS Dhoni will not be retiring from professional cricket in the near
future. With that, the 44-year-old is set to play in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2026, aiming to win the coveted trophy for the record-setting sixth time in history for the franchise.
Notably, since MS Dhoni’s retirement from international cricket in 2020, the fans have speculated time and again in regards to how long he will continue in professional cricket. Over time, he has addressed the matter in a variety of ways without ever stating his retirement date as a professional cricketer and now, more than five years later, into his 40s, the Ranchi-born has kept on going as a CSK player in the IPL.
Johns Benny (@CricCrazyJohns), who is one of the most famous sports news aggregators from India, took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account to give the latest news in regards to MS Dhoni’s professional career in the IPL with CSK. He was quoted as saying, “MS DHONI LOCKED FOR IPL 2026. CSK CEO (Kasi Viswanathan) confirms Dhoni is not going to retire. [Provoke Lifestyle]”.
MS Dhoni captained CSK for majority of IPL 2025 and finished last
Notably, during the IPL 2025 season concluded earlier this year, MS Dhoni had to lead CSK for the majority of the campaign due to an unfortunate injury to their captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. The team ended up winning just four matches out of 14 in the IPL 2025 to finish in 10th and last place in the league standings and this happened for the first-time in their illustrious history.
The return of MS Dhoni to the IPL one more season could be to write the wrongs of last season and finish on a high in the 2026 campaign next summer.
