In the ongoing ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup (CWC) 2025final at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, India batted fiercely after losing the toss. Following a fine stand of 104 runs off 106 balls from their
openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma, India’s middle-order struggled to score runs at a brisk pace. There were moments in the innings when South Africa bowlers succeeded in keeping the run rate lower than 6.00. Jemimah Rodrigues, the the star performer from the semi-final, got dismissed on 24 off 37 as pacer Ayabonga Khaka got rid of her in the 30th over.
After Rodrigues’ dismissal, Deepti Sharma walked into the middle and built a 52-run stand with her captain Harmanpreet Kaur for the fourth wicket off just 56 balls. After Harmanpreet’s departure, Deepti stood in the middle and went on to score her 18th WODI fifty in 53 balls. Riding on her run-a-ball 58-run knock, Indiareached a competitve total of 298/7 in 50 overs. Noting Deepti’s performance, netizen praised her. An X user named Bairriys wrote, “A fifty has been scored again by Dependable Deepti. Deepti Sharma and Richa Ghosh are needed as batters right here, right now. Just do it #INDvsSA #INDWvsSAW #ICCWomensWorldCup2025#.”
Below are some of the posts on X from fans appreciating Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma for her fifty:
South Africa will have high expectations from captain Laura Woolvardt in pursuit of 299-run target in final
The DY Patil Stadium’s pitch has been very good for batters so far in the World Cup and South Africa will look to take advantage of the conditions in pursuit of the 299-run target. The Protea team supporters will want their skipper Laura Woolvardt to shine with her bat to help their team pull off the run chase and win the coveted title for the first-time ever.
In the semi-final against England in Guwahati, Wolvaardt did a magnificent job with her bat as she hammered a match-winning 169 off 143. India, on the other hand, will want their bowling attack to be disciplined so that they can win the final and script history with their maiden World Cup title as well.
