Mohammed Siraj, the Indian fast bowler, was an epitome of consistency with the ball in the recently concluded five-match Test series between England and India for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, playing
a key role in levelling it up 2-2 for his side at The Oval in London in the fifth match earlier today. The 31-year-old put up a lion-hearted effort with the ball for the Indian cricket team, becoming the only pacer to get through all the five Test matches unscathed, especially when the spearhead Jasprit Bumrah could only play three Tests due to workload management.
With India trailing the series going into the fifth and final Test at The Oval in London, Mohammed Siraj had to lead the bowling attack in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, and he did it expertly. When India were down and out in England’s first innings in defense of 224-run total, he dismissed England’s stand-in captain Ollie Pope, Joe Root, and Jacob Bethell in quick succession, to bring his team back into the contest, ending up with a four-wicket haul.
Mohammed Siraj took second five-wicket haul of the series to help India win the fifth Test at The Oval
After the Indian batters managed to set-up a big target of 374 runs for England to chase, Mohammed Siraj was in the thick of the action again, dropping Harry Brook at a key moment, who ended up putting his team on the brink of a Test win and a 3-1 series triumph. But after his teammates brought India back into the contest, Siraj pushed himself one last time in the series on the fifth day of the fifth Test, taking three wickets in the spell, including the final one of Gus Atkinson, to secure them a six-run win in the match and a 2-2 series result.
For his match-winning performance in the fifth Test against England, taking nine wickets in total, including a five-wicket haul in the second innings, Mohammed Siraj was declared the player of the match (POTM).

Earlier in the series, Mohammed Siraj had a tough outing in the first Test at Headingley in Leeds, taking just two wickets in a defeat, but he made amends immediately, registering figures of 6/70 in the first innings of the second Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham, to set the stage for a massive win by 336 runs. In the third Test at Lord’s in London, it was the batting of Mohammed Siraj which took center stage during the pursuit of the 193-run target after performing quite well with the ball.
He ended up scoring 4 off 30 while batting alongside all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, but his rearguard action ended when Shoaib Bashir bowled him out in an agonising manner, leaving India 22 runs short of the target. After that, the Indian cricket team managed to draw the fourth Test at the Old Trafford in Manchester, in which Mohammed Siraj wasn’t able to make much of an impact with the ball, but with the series still alive, he came back strongly at The Oval in London in the fifth Test, to end the England tour on an ultimate high, taking his team past the finishing line.
