According to the reports, Delhi Capitals could be set for another major change ahead of the 2027 Indian Premier League season, with KL Rahul emerging as the frontrunner to take over the captaincy from
Axar Patel.
The franchise is already preparing for a significant overhaul after a disappointing IPL 2026 campaign, with changes expected not only in leadership but also within the coaching setup. Rahul, who has been an important part of the Capitals’ batting unit, is now reportedly being considered for the top leadership role.
KL Rahul emerges as captaincy contender
Rahul has considerable experience of leading an IPL side and has previously captained Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants. His experience at the highest level, along with his role as a senior member of the Delhi Capitals squad, makes him one of the names being discussed for the position.
Axar Patel has led Delhi in recent seasons, but the franchise could now be looking at a fresh leadership structure for IPL 2027.
