Former Team Indiaspinner Harbhajan Singh has targeted ex-England skipper Michael Vaughan over the latter’s prediction ahead of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. Before the start of the red-ball competition,
some cricket experts predicted India’s 1-3 loss under Shubman Gill’s captaincy against England. Vaughan was also among those experts who had predicted that England would record a 3-0 or 3-1 win against the Gill-led side. However, under the 35-year-old’s leadership, India showcased fighting spirit and secured a draw result with a 2-2 margin in the five-game series. In the final Test at The Oval, Mohammed Siraj led India’s fast-bowling unit confidently and chipped in with nine wickets in India’s six-run win.
After India’s epic victory, Harbhajan produced a video on his YouTube channel and reminded Vaughan of his prediction before the series. He also told the 50-year-old former English player to check where Englandcricket stands. "I feel there is a big win hidden for India here. Yes, the scoreline shows 2-2. Michael Vaughan and many others predicted that it would be 3-1 or 3-0. I would tell them to look towards their side a bit and where England cricket stands. Our warriors have shown the level of Indian cricket," said Harbhajan.
Shubman Gill led India from the front
Playing his maiden red-ball series as captain, Shubman Gill looked extraordinary. In the series, he notched up 754 runs with four tons in 10 innings of five matches. With these numbers, he emerged as the most successful batter in the competition.
Ahead of the competition, Gill’s critics were drawing attention to his batting numbers against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2025. However, after donning the leadership role, he played his part exceptionally to help India level the series on English soil for the second time in a row within four years.
