Of the 8 T20 internationals that have happened as on date between the Ireland national men’s team and the Indian side, Ireland are yet to win a single encounter. That’s whether or not the contests have happened back
in Ireland territory or as part of a T20 World Cup campaign elsewhere around the globe. But what’s concerning is that Ireland are far from a non serious, non competitive side that is in anyway not immensely talented.
With the presence of star names such as Paul Stirling, Harry Tector, George Dockrell and Lorcan Tucker among the others, Ireland are surely found to pack a punch against India in the soon to begin series and would most definitely like to open their account with reference to a win, if not more, at the very least, against India.
And perhaps that is just one of the things that makes the soon to begin India versus Ireland T20I series all the more exciting. The other element in this hopefully exciting contest being the presence of some remarkable names that are about to hit the Ireland territory from the Indian camp- including Tilak Varma, Shreyas Iyer, Abhishek Sharma and the likes of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi!
But having said that there was for some time a sense of uncertainty that had blanketed the commencement of the series in Ireland to an extent that it was being felt that the series could even get cancelled and not take place in the first place. The same was on account of some communal issues or civil disturbances.
Because of several civil disturbances and protests that had earlier happened back in Ireland, a looming threat had come to blanket the series thus creating uncertainty about it taking place for real.
That, however, is no longer the case.
There’s tremendously good news in the sense that the looming uncertainty in lines with the civil protests back in Ireland are no longer posing a threat as the authorities connected with Cricket Ireland have found out that there won’t be any security issues that were otherwise sensed.
If that’s not a piece of brilliant development, then what is?
The Police Service of Northern Ireland have given a green signal to Cricket Ireland in the matter of the two T20I contests between India and the hosts.
The two white ball T20I contests are slated to be held on June 26 and 28, later this month. The venue for the games is to be the Civil Service Cricket Club at Stormont in Belfast in Ireland.
Moreover, certain enhanced safety protocols and boosted security measures are currently being implemented as we speak in coordination with venue management and the PSNI (police services of Northern Ireland).
The series offers a humungous opportunity and a brilliant one at that for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the talented and explosive 15 year told to finally make his India debut.
He’ll thus become, shall he play, the youngest ever to represent India men’s senior team.
