In the first ODI against West Indies at Thiruvananthapuram, Virat Kohli produced another chasing masterclass. Batting at number three after Rohit Sharma’s dismissal, the former Indian captain completed
a fluent half-century and also went past 15,000 ODI runs. He reached the milestone in just 40 balls and his knock included three fours and two sixes. He brought up the milestone with a six off Alzarri Joseph as the crowd were entertained. Fans at the Greenfield Stadium and millions watching around the world celebrated not just a fifty, but another chapter in a career already filled with 54 centuries and an average close to 59.
He had walked into the match with 14,941 ODI runs. The half-century he scored took him past the 15,000-run landmark, making him only the second batsman in the history of the format after Sachin Tendulkar to reach the mark. Against the West Indies, Kohli has always been at his best. He already scored more than 2,200 runs against them at an average above 66 before this series. Chasing the target, he mixed crisp drives, soft hands for singles and the occasional aggressive stroke to keep the chase of 296 under control. The half-century was classic Kohli as he was calm under pressure, precise in placement, and completely in control of the match.

Virat Kohli is second and his half-century against West Indies pushed him past 15,000 runs, consolidating his place behind only Tendulkar. His average near 59 and tally of 54 centuries highlight a different kind of dominance in fewer matches, far higher conversion.
Kumar Sangakkara follows with 14,234 runs. The elegant Sri Lankan combined consistency with wicketkeeping duties and scored 25 centuries. Ricky Ponting (13,704) and Sanath Jayasuriya (13,430) complete the top five. Mahela Jayawardene (12,650), Inzamam-ul-Haq (11,739), Jacques Kallis (11,579), Sourav Ganguly (11,363) and Rahul Dravid (10,889) make up the rest of the top ten.
