Cricketers and athletes from various domains took to X and wished fans and fellow countrymen on Independence Day. The Indian subcontinent is celebrating its 80th Independence Day on 15th August 2026, remembering
the countless sacrifices made during the country’s freedom struggle. Athletes and cricketers joined the celebrations and used social media to share messages embodying the spirit of pride, gratitude and patriotism. Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar shared a picture of him holding the Tiranga, and wrote, “Happy Independence Day!”
Not only him, former Indian cricketers including Suresh Raina, Irfan Pathan, VVS Laxman, and more extended their heartfelt wishes to fellow Indian citizens on the auspicious occasion. What caught everyone’s eyes were the wishes from overseas cricketers including Kevin Pietersen. Pietersen took to X and wrote, "Happy Independence Day, to every single one of my Indian friends! I love your country so much! I love all the kind people! Jai Hind.”
