Former Indian Cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has also called off his career in the Indian Premier League(IPL) on August 27. The star off-spinner announced his retirement from International cricket during
the Border-Gavaskar Trophy down under last year. However, he went on to play the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2025 after Chennai Super Kings bought him back in their squad for INR 9.75 crore in the mega auction last year.
Now, almost three months after the end of IPL 2025, R. Ashwin also retired from the cash-rich league. However, he might be seen playing for other cricketing leagues in the world. Although Ashwin called off his career from Indian cricket, he can also take a new role of coaching in the upcoming IPL season. In the following listicle, we will have a look at the three IPL teams which that look to appoint Ashwin as spin bowling coach ahead of IPL 2026.
Let's take a look at the IPL teams that can consider Ravichandran Ashwin as a spin bowling coach:
Chennai Super Kings
R. Ashwin played his last IPL season for Chennai Super Kings in 2025. He made his return in the franchise after 10 years and was star spinner for the franchise in the starting years of the IPL. Although Ashwin didn’t get many chances in IPL 2025, CSK will be looking to get Ashwin back in a new role, most probably as a spin bowling coach ahead of IPL 2026. His experience and guidance can make CSK’s spin bowling a force to be reckoned with and the franchise is likely to approach him for the role.
Rajasthan Royals
Before his arrival in CSK, R. Ashwin spent three years with the inaugural IPL champions Rajasthan Royals and had a great outing with the franchise. Ashwin became a star for RR and produced several match-winning performances. Now, after his retirement from the IPL, Rajasthan Royals are likely to get Ashwin back most probably as spin bowling coach ahead of IPL 2026.
Delhi Capitals
Another IPL franchise R. Ashwin has played for are Delhi Capitals. Ashwin was a part of DC in IPL 2020 and 2021 where he ended up taking 20 wickets from 28 matches in both the seasons. DC already have star Indian spinners with the likes of skipper Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav in their squad. Now, with the addition of Ashwin as spin bowling coach, they will be looking to form a formidable spin bowling line up in IPL 2026.
