In theIndian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) looked completely out of rhythm and concluded their campaign at the bottom of the points table. However, the positive things extracted
by CSK during the season was South Africa batter Dewald Brevis’ prowess. In the second half of the season, Brevis joined the CSK camp, as an injury replacement for Gurjapneet Singh. The youngster looked phenomenal with his bat and notched up 225 runs with two fifties in six matches, at a strike rate of 180.00.
Recently, Dewald Brevishad a conversation with the former South Africa skipper AB de Villiers and opened up on his experience with MS Dhoni, who was captaining CSK in IPL in the absence of the regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad. “I’ll always remember like, whenever I tell people it’s amazing. I had amazing times, my four years [in IPL]. It was incredible. And I had to go through all of the journey like it’s been beautiful, and the one thing that I can just say from MS is his humbleness and who he is as a person that stood out for me. How he is basically off the field, the time he has for players, for people,” remarked Brevis.
The 22-year-old Protea also disclosed that he saw himself chatting with the CSK legend in the latter’s room during IPL 2025. "His room door is always open. If he’s sleeping, that’s the only time it’s closed. And I found myself a few times in his room just sitting there with whatever he’s busy like chatting to him about his hobbies, watching cricket, and yeah, that’s just amazing and just to see how what he does like off the field and like everyone knows what he does on the field and at training and yeah just it’s very special,” added Brevis.
Dewald Brevis shone with his bat in the second ODI against England
Brevis looked in sensational touch with his bat in the second One-Day International (ODI) against England, played at the iconic Lord’s. He smashed a brisk 42 off 20 which helped the visitors to erect a massive total of 330/8. South Africa hammered England in the second ODI by five runs and took an unassailable lead of 2-0.
Brevis, who is known for being an exemplary batter in T20 Internationals (T20I), will strive to consolidate his position in South Africa’s ODI side. The Proteas will play the final game on September 7 and Brevis will back himself to at his best to help his side whitewash the home side.
