Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh wants the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selectors to give ODI call-ups to players like Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Kishan has
already made his debut in the 50-over format and has played as many as 32 ODI games. However, Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi are yet to receive their maiden ODI caps.
All three of them are a part of the Indian squad clashing against New Zealand in the ongoing T20I series. Ishan Kishan, after scoring 30 runs off 10 balls in the first game, was ruled out with a low-adductor strain for the second and third T20I. He was replaced by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who along with Abhishek Sharma, delivered a sensational performance in the third T20I.
They helped India register the highest team powerplay score in T20I history with 118 runs without losing a wicket. Singh has backed the three young stars and said that by not selecting them in the ODI setup, India were not doing justice to their talent.
VIDEO | Mumbai: Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh believes that not regularly including players such as Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the ODI squad amounts to doing an injustice to their talent.
“I would love to see him (Abhishek Sharma) in the ODIs, to be honest. I have said this before: if we are not picking players like Ishan Kishan, Abhishek and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in 50-over cricket, then somewhere down the line, we are not doing justice to our talent,” Yuvraj told PTI on the sidelines of the launch of Protocol 32.
“I understand we have some great players and it is hard to make a spot for them. I think the way they are performing, they should be in the squad soon, hopefully. Whatever he has achieved is because of his hard work, and credit goes to him,” he added.

Yuvraj Singh backs ODI selection for Kishan, Abhishek and Sooryavanshi
“I would love to see him (Abhishek) in the ODIs, to be honest, and I have said this before that if we are not picking guys like Ishan Kishan, Abhishek and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in 50-over cricket, then somewhere down the line we are not doing justice to their talent,” he told PTI on the sidelines of the launch event of Protocol 32.
“I understand we have some great players, and it is hard to make a spot for them. I think the way they (young batters) are performing, hopefully they should be in the squad soon. Whatever he (Abhishek) has achieved is because of his hard work, and the credit goes to him,” he added.
Talking about the series, after securing a series dominating 3-0 win, India suffered their first defeat of the series on Friday in the fourth T20I by a margin of 87 runs. Batting first, New Zealand put up a daunting target of 260, and the Men in Blue failed to chase it, after being restricted to 172 for nine.
