Not just the runs, or the wickets alone but the revenue is also a big definitive factor that comes into effect as far as the ongoing series between the Afghanistan and the Indian side is concerned. And
even as the contests have, insofar, swung the Indian team’s way, with the Shreyas Iyer led team making a lightwork of the “hosts” Afghanistan side, the benefits of playing India are far reaching than that of being beaten by them. Or at least, that is the most logical way of putting it! But why’s that and what is the advantage that the Afghanistan cricket side have with playing India?
Apparently, as far as current reporting on the ongoing T20I series between the two teams stands, then the main beneficiary from the contest is the Afghanistan side. And how so?
Because their cricket board, i.e., the Afghan Cricket Board is all set to earn INR 50 crores from these contests. You read that right. 50 crores or approximately 500 million US dollars equivalent is the earning for the cricket team that’s currently trailing India by a margin of 2-nil.
If anyone said that losing gets you some wins as well, especially from the context of earning handsomely by playing a powerful force in the game, then that logic applies to the current Afghanistan Cricket team.
Despite having the notable and powerful talents of the class of Rashid Khan, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Gulbadin Naib among the others, the team got smashed and totally outplayed by a visibly powerful Indian side loaded with sheer talent.
So audacious and impressive has been India’s thumping of Afghanistan, something visible to live eyes and countless that are hooked onto the television or handheld sets that they’ve not even waited for the last over to complete a run chase.
For instance, in the game where India chased down the 157-run ask, they didn’t even need the 14th complete over to do so. You can very well imagine the sheer dominance of the side when it doesn’t need 36 legal deliveries to complete the run ask.
What has also helped the Indian side is the very fact that the return of Jasprit Bumrah has further helped the bowling line up consolidate its performance. He’s gone for figures like 4 overs-26 runs-1 wicket.
And then the majestic form of Sanju Samson has also helped the team.
But having earned millions and now facing the threat of being whitewashed as another looming threat of a defeat in the last T20I states the side, is Afghanistan even complaining?
