On October 24, 2018, Virat Kohli became the fastest batter to notch up 10000 ODI runs. In the ODI played against the West Indies in Visakhapatnam, when Kohli scored his 81st run, he shattered Sachin Tendulkar’s
record to own the milestone. Tendulkar became the owner of the feat in 259 innings while Kohli pulled off the record after 205 innings only. In this key match, captain Kohli won the toss against his counterpart Jason Holder and elected to bat first. Rohit Sharma departed after scoring only four off eight but Kohli, who came to bat at number three, looked extraordinary and took the visitors’ bowling attack to the cleaners.
Expectations were high from him to break Tendulkar’s record and he didn’t disappoint his supporters. In the 37th over, when Ashley Nurse came to bowl, MS Dhoni was at the striker’s end. Dhoni took a single which brought Kohli in the confronting position against the off spinner. On the third delivery, Kohli stole a single and delivered the moment of joy to spectators at the stadium and his supporters as he racked up the 81st run in the match. Kohli also went on to become the fourth batter for Team Indiato score 10000 ODI runs.

After shattering Tendulkar’s record, Kohli also went on to complete his 37th ODI ton. In the 44th over, he struck Marlon Samuels for a four and reached his century in 106 deliveries. He concluded his spectacular knock after amassing an unbeaten 157 runs off 129 balls. Riding on his innings, India erected a total of 321/6 in 50 overs.
