Rohit Sharma Creates History with Incredible ODI Feat during second WI clash
In the second ODI against West Indies, Sharma got back in his ‘Hitman’ form and recorded his 35th ODI century at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. The former Indian skipper put up a blistering knock against the Shai Hope-led side as they chased a monumental total of 405 runs. Sharma completed a 72-ball hundred and also joined the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli as he reached the 12,000 ODI-run mark.
He reached the milestone in 282 innings, becoming the second-fastest batter to do so. Only Virat Kohli achieved the feat faster than him in 242 innings, while Sachin Tendulkar did it in 300 innings. The rest of the players including Ricky Ponting and Kumar Sangakkara took 314 and 336 innings, respectively.
However, with his rapid early assault Sharma also created an incredible ODI record. He has now become the first batter in One Day International history to hit 200 sixes in a single country. With this, he has moved well ahead of West Indies great Chris Gayle, who finished his career with 147 ODI sixes in a single nation.
