Sanjiv Goenka could be preparing to take the Super Giants brand to yet another major cricket market, with the RPSG Group showing interest in entering Australia’s Big Bash League which happens in December
every year.
Goenka has steadily built one of the biggest franchise cricket portfolios outside the IPL. His group owns Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League, Durban’s Super Giants in South Africa’s SA20 and has a majority stake in Manchester Super Giants in The Hundred.
Now, Australia appears to be the next market on the radar.
Cricket Australia has officially opened the door to private investment in the Big Bash League, beginning with the sale of the Melbourne Renegades. The Renegades licence will be offered to private investors, with the new ownership expected to take control from the 2027-28 BBL season.

That development has immediately attracted attention from major international cricket investors, and Goenka’s Super Giants group is understood to be among those interested in exploring an opportunity in the competition.
For Goenka, a BBL franchise would be another significant piece in a global cricket strategy that has expanded rapidly in recent years. The group has already created a presence in India, South Africa and England. Adding Australia would give the Super Giants a footprint across four of the world’s most important cricket markets.

The move would also make commercial sense. The BBL is played during Australia’s summer and has established itself as one of the world’s prominent domestic T20 competitions. With Cricket Australia now looking to bring private capital into the league, franchise ownership could become an increasingly attractive proposition for investors who already have experience operating teams in other T20 tournaments.
The Renegades are currently the first BBL franchise being taken to the market. Cricket Australia has said that, depending on how that process progresses, other teams could also be made available under a model that allows individual state associations to decide whether they want to pursue private investment.
For Goenka, however, this could be bigger than simply adding another team to his portfolio. A BBL franchise would complete a remarkable global expansion for the Super Giants brand, giving the group access to fans and commercial opportunities across India, South Africa, England and Australia.
