Former India captain and coach Rahul Dravidhas shared an interesting story regarding Team India Test captain Shubman Gill. Dravid, who coached Gill as a part of Team India, worked with the youngster while
coaching India’s U-19 side as well. In 2018, India’s U-19 team lifted the trophy under Prithvi Shaw’s captaincy and Dravid’s leadership. Gill played an instrumental role in the success as he notched up 372 runs in five innings of six games and emerged as the second highest run-scorer in the tournament.
Recently, Rahul Dravid had a chat with former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who runs his show "Kutti Stories" on YouTube. Dravid reveals Gill used to be popular when he met the youngster while coaching the junior team. He said, "Shubman Gill was the obvious one, along with Prithvi Shaw. Many people discovered Shubman Gill because everywhere I went, all I heard was 'Shubman Gill, whoa, this player Shubman Gill.'"
"And it's true, when you come through this Indian system, where you are a special player like Vaibhav (Suryavanshi) or (Ayush) Mhatre, they have been through so many coaches and scouts. Before I actually saw Shubman Gill, about six people had told me there's this kid called Shubman Gill, and that he's a very good player and things like that," Rahul Dravid added.
