Virat Kohli reached another major milestone in his illustrious ODI career during India’s first ODI against the West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram, completing 15,000 runs in the 50-over format.
Kohli reached
the landmark in the 29th over of India’s chase, when he took on Alzarri Joseph. The West Indies pacer bowled a short delivery outside off, and Kohli stayed back in his crease before pulling the ball firmly through the mid-wicket region for a boundary.
The four runs took Kohli to 65 off 48 deliveries and also completed his 15,000 ODI runs. He became only the second batter in the history of ODI cricket to reach the remarkable milestone, adding another significant achievement to his already decorated career.

The moment was celebrated by the crowd at the venue, with the fans getting to witness Kohli bring up the landmark on home soil. As the ball raced away to the boundary, Kohli raised both his arms and acknowledged the applause from the stands.
The celebration came during a strong partnership between Kohli and Shubman Gill as India continued its chase of 296. At the end of 29 overs, India had moved to 193/1, requiring another 103 runs for victory. Gill was batting on 95 off 91 balls, while Kohli had reached 65 off 48.
Kohli had already settled into the chase after India lost an early wicket, and his boundary off Joseph underlined his intent to keep the scoring rate moving. The Indian batter also struck another four from Joseph in the previous delivery, making it a productive over for India.
With his latest milestone, Kohli once again entered an exclusive ODI record book. His 15,000-run mark places him alongside the very few batters to have achieved such a feat in the format, while his contribution continued to keep India firmly in control of the chase.
Only two players carry the record of scoring 15,000 plus ODI runs, Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.
