Fazilka Falcons captain Shubman Gill continued making an impact in the Sher-E-Punjab T20 League, this time by smashing a blazing fifty. Gill’s Falcons were up against the Amritsar Soormas in the last of
their back-to-back clashes on Monday, September 7. The Indian skipper, who missed a few opening games of the side, played his second game and it didn’t take him much time to announce his arrival. After hitting an impactful 40 in his debut match earlier on Sunday, Gill continued his momentum and went on to record a quickfire half-century.
After being asked to bat first, the Falcons suffered an instant setback as they lost one of their openers Vihaan Malhotra at 5 runs. This was not it, Ahshul Chaudhary also departed quickly at a golden duck. However, skipper Gill and Pranshu Pratap took control of the innings and went on to play stable knocks. While Pratap came up with a 33-ball 40, Gill recorded his first fifty of the tournament with just 28 balls. The Indian skipper who is just a day short from turning 27, went on to hit 67 runs in 35 deliveries. He hit eight boundaries and three maximums as the Falcons crossed the 150-run mark with ease. Gill was eventually dismissed after being caught out by Naman Dhir near the boundary rope off his Indian teammate Abhishek Sharma delivery.

Shubman Gill Aims to Lead Falcons for Third Consecutive Win in Sher-E-Punjab
The Indian ODI and Test skipper missed a few opening games in the league and joined the home side in their fifth game of the season. On Sunday, the Falcons locked horns with the Ludhiana Lions and went on to record a narrow 1-run win. It marked their second consecutive triumph, following a DLS victory over the Bhatinda Royals. Gill, who was playing his debut game in the league, ended up as his team’s highest run-scorer with 40 runs in 21 deliveries. Considering how impactful his inclusion has proven to the side, the Indian skipper would aim to guide them to more wins for as long as he is active in the tournament.
Coming back to the clash against the Soormas, Falcons’ stand-in skipper Sanvir Singh played a knock of 40 runs in 21 deliveries with a combination of two boundaries and three maximums. The combined batting efforts of Falcons’ batters helped them cross the 170-run mark with the loss of five wickets at the time of writing.
