22-year-old Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday, September 7 edged past his arch-nemesis and top ranked Jannik Sinner of Italy to claim the US Open 2025 title at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City. The Spanish
international defeated Sinner 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the summit clash, claiming his second trophy at the venue and sixth Grand Slam title overall.
Moreover, the victory for Alcaraz also helped him regain the World No. 1 ranking from Sinner, reclaiming the spot for the first time since September 2023. Moreover, Alcaraz portrayed sheer dominance and now leads their head-to-head record by 10-5 with the duo sharing eight Grand Slam titles between themselves.

The victory for Alcaraz, which is his second at this venue, helped him secure the record-breaking prize money of $5 million. It is worth noting that the US Open has the highest prize money across all four Grand Slams and with a win at the Flushing Meadows, Alcaraz took home a massive prize sum of INR 44 Crore.
On the other hand, his Italian counterpart, Jannik Sinner finished with INR 22.03 Crore, which is $2.5 million. Moreover, the prize money is equal to the one given in the women’s singles as Aryna Sabalenka, the top ranked received $5 million whereas runners-up Amanda Anisimova walked away with $2.5 million.
Speaking of the Spanish international, clinching his sixth major title, the 22-year-old became the second youngest tennis player in history to win six Grand Slam titles after Bjorn Borg, who achieved the feat at 22 years and 32 days old. Moreover, the Spaniard has also become the youngest player to win multiple titles at three different Grand Slam surfaces, overtaking Mats Wilander, who did this aged 24 years and six days.
