The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India's squad for the Asia Cup 2025, set to be played from September 9 to 28 in the United Arab Emirates. Shreyas Iyer, who did an extraordinary
job with his bat for Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, wasn’t inducted in India’s 15-member squad. Iyer has looked magnificent in 2025 as he was the highest run-scorer in India’s Champions Trophy 2025 success. Following that, he also emerged as the most successful batter for Punjab in IPL 2025, notching up 604 runs with six fifties in 17 matches.
Despite being in excellent form in 2025, Shreyas Iyer’s exclusion from the squad has befuddled Team India supporters who were expecting him to win a spot in the side for the continental tournament. Noting the 30-year-old getting ignored, several netizen came heavily on selectors. An X user named Pixel77 wrote, “They didn't select Shreyas Iyer because he could have been a lethal threat to the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill. When you can't compete with him, eliminate him. Yet again politics won.”
Rinku Singh made it to India’s 15-member squad for Asia Cup 2025
Rinku Singh failed to be effective for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2025 but he has made it to India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2025. Donning the KKR jersey, he failed to justify his spot in the team as he accumulated only 206 runs in 11 innings of 13 matches at an average of 29.42.
Rinku struggled to be among the runs during India’s last T20 International (T20I) series against England at home. Appearing in three matches, he could score only 39 runs in two innings at an average of 19.50 and a strike rate of 121.87.
