KL Rahul scored a magnificent century against New Zealand in the second match of the ODI series at Rajkot. He brought up his century in 87 balls which included seven fours and a six. It was an innings
of high quality as he had to walk in when India were in trouble having lost four wickets within the first 25 overs. KL Rahul brought up his century by smashing a six over long on and fans were treated to a spectacular innings. Watch his celebration here.
This was his 8th ODI century and he held the innings beautifully. He helped India post a total of 284 in the first innings. During the knock he built crucial partnerships with Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Reddy. Despite losing partners in the end he managed to score boundaries in the death overs. KL Rahul also became the first player to score a century at Rajkot. The previous highest score by an Indian at this venue was 96 by Shikhar Dhawan.
KL Rahul ended the innings on unbeaten 112 and went back back to a standing ovation of the crowd at Rajkot. A magnificent innings from one of India’s most dependable batters in this format. He hits two boundaries in the final over to take India to a big total. He scored 11 boundaries and a six in his innings.
Currently, KL Rahul has an ODI average of more than 50. He has scored more than 3,300 runs in this format and that average is phenomenal given he is batting lower down the order. Additionally, India have won 13 out of 13 matches when Rahul has remained unbeaten in an ODI run chase. He also holds the record for the highest ODI average for a batter at No. 4 or below this decade (59.1). He has been one of the most consistent player in the Indian ODI team and has often helped India in crucial situations.
