Former India opener and cricket analyst Aakash Chopra has taken a dig at a social media post that falsely claimed Sanju Samson expressed interest in becoming Chennai Super Kings captain and criticised
current skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad. In a video posted on X under the hashtag #JhoothKaDRS, Chopra highlighted a post from an account named Mahi Patel. The post quoted Samson as saying he was ready to take on any responsibility for CSK. The post said with an interviewer asking: “Sanju, with Ruturaj failing, would you like to lead CSK?” and attributed a harsh reply to Samson, including the claim that CSK had not won anything in his captaincy and that Gaikwad was a very poor captain.
Aakash Chopra went through the post and the reactions it generated. Many users praised Samson as the ideal choice for captaincy and urged CSK to give him the role. Others questioned the authenticity of the interview. Chopra pointed out that no such interview exists. Speaking about this topic in his YouTube channel, he said “This interview does not exist. Samson has not said this at all. It is fake news. This interview never happened. Sanju never said this,”

Samson Finishes as CSK’s Leading Run-Scorer
Sanju Samson made a strong impact in his first season with Chennai Super Kings. In 14 matches he scored 477 runs at an average of 43.36 and a strike rate of 165.63, finishing as CSK’s leading run-getter. He smashed two centuries, including an unbeaten 115 against Delhi Capitals and also a half-century. Despite his contributions, CSK endured a difficult campaign and finished eighth in the points table with six wins and eight losses. The side could only get 12 points and a net run rate of -0.345, missing out on the playoffs for another season. Injuries disrupted their balance throughout the season and they failed to get a top four finish.
Chopra also said that while Samson has previously spoken about being ready to take on any responsibility for the franchise after his high-profile trade from Rajasthan Royals, the specific comments criticising Gaikwad and demanding captaincy are fabricated. The video is a part of Chopra’s ongoing effort to flag misinformation in cricket discussions. He has been doing this more recently on YouTube where he has debunked the fake news. Samson joined CSK ahead of the 2026 IPL season after being traded by Rajasthan Royals.
