The 2025 Asia Cup winning captain, Suryakumar Yadav posted a throwback tweet on X regarding their championship triumph a year ago. The tweet seemed normal until the fans noticed the photos that were posted along
with the tweet. Suryakumar Yadav placed an emoji of a trophy in their celebrations, taking a wild dig at the tension around the issue. The Indian side were stern in their stance to not receive the trophy from the PCB Chairman and Asian Cricket Council President, Mohsin Naqvi. However, rather than leaving the trophy for the side, Mohsin Naqvi withheld the trophy and refused to hand over the silverware to the side.
In the finals of the 2025 Asia Cup, India defeated Pakistan by 5 wickets and there were some heated exchanges between the players. BCCI and the Indian players refused to receive the trophy and medals from Mohsin Naqvi due to cross-border tensions. Trophy custody remained with the PCB Chairman and it was reported that he moved the silverware to a secure location from the ACC headquarters. Naqvi was rigid with his stance as he claimed that the trophy wouldn’t be handed over unless the captain collected it from him in person. There were informal discussions held between the boards in late 2025 but the dispute couldn’t be resolved.

The 2025 Asia Cup itself began with controversy as India refused to shake hands with the Pakistani players. The cross-border tensions between the nations attracted severe criticism from the fans and a negative outcome was on the cards. India enjoyed a flawless run in the Super 4 as they cruised past every opposition they faced. Suryakumar Yadav and his men faced their first obstacle in the last game of the Super 4 against Sri Lanka. The match went down to the wire as India edged past Sri Lanka in the Super Over. However, the excitement in the Final game of the tournament was unmatched as India and Pakistan went head to head.
Pakistan had a dream start to the final but their batting order collapsed as their top order departed. Despite setting a low total of 147 on board, India lost 3 early wickets for just 20 runs. Then came a batting masterclass from Tilak Varma as he scored a match-winning knock of 69 off just 53 balls. His partnership along with Shivam Dube ensured that India crossed the line at the end of the game. India were crowned Champions of Asia yet again but the aftermath that followed was unpleasant.
India’s former T20I captain claimed that he felt nostalgic about wearing the Indian jersey. He claimed that there is no greater feeling than wearing the national jersey and contributing to its success.
