It is to be noted that Sinner retired during his Cincinnati Open 2025 Final against Carlos Alcaraz after going down 0-5 on Monday, August 18. Taking to X, the 24-year-old wrote, “Yesterday I didn’t feel great and I’m really sorry to disappoint you. Thank you so much to everyone supporting me on-site and from home, your support means the world.”
After his early retirement mid-match, the 24-year-old said, “I’m disappointed, I didn’t feel great from yesterday. During the night, I thought I would recover a bit better, but it was not the case.”
With the pair already withdrawing, the US Open organisers confirmed America’s Danielle Collins and Christian Harrison pair as their replacement. The American pair went onto beat the pair of Ben Shelton and T Townsend in the quarterfinals and will now play Belinda Bencic and Alexander Zverev duo in the first round of the US Open 2025 mixed doubles at the Louis Armstrong Stadium on Wednesday, August 20.
