On August 16, 2021, Virat Kohli-led Team India registered one of the most iconic Tests wins against England at Lords Cricket Ground in London. In an intense day five, India completely dominated the English
side and defeated the hosts by 151 runs which turned out to be among the most memorable Test wins for India in the SENA countries. With this win, India also took a lead of 1-0 in a five-match Test series after the first match ended in a draw.
Coming to bat first after losing the toss, India were bowled out for 364 runs in the first innings. KL Rahul turned out to be the star with the bat with a knock of 129(250) runs while Rohit Sharma contributed with 83 runs off 145 balls. James Anderson shone with the figures of 5/62 for England. In reply to India’s total, England skipper Joe Root turned out to be a lone warrior with the bat with an unbeaten 180*(321). With the help of Root’s captain’s knock, England posted 391 runs - taking a lead of 27 runs in the first innings.
Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah’s partnership laid foundation for famous Lords win
In the second innings, India were struggling to make big partnerships and kept losing wickets at regular intervals, Ajinkya Rahane scored 61(146) runs while Cheteshwar Pujara contributed with 45(206) runs. At one point, India were reduced to 209/8 with a lead of 182 runs. After that, two of India’s star pacers, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah shone with the bat with a partnership of 89 runs. Shami scored 56*(70) runs while Bumrah contributed with 34*(64) runs. India declared on 298/8, giving England a target of 272 runs.
With only 60 overs remaining in the game, the Indian bowlers delivered one of the most dominant performances overseas and didn’t give any chance to England to save the game. At last, Mohammed Siraj cleared James Anderson’s stumps as England were bowled out for 121 with just a few overs left. With this, India scripted one of the most famous overseas Test wins that too at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground.
