Australian cricket superstar David Warner is all set to make his debut in the Nepal Premier League, joining the Kathmandu Gorkhas for the third edition of the tournament. The franchise confirmed Warner’s
signing on Tuesday, September 15, ending days of speculation surrounding the identity of the major overseas player they had been teasing on social media. Warner himself appeared in a video message shared by the Kathmandu Gorkhas, confirming his arrival in Nepal.
Warner is one of the biggest names to feature in the Nepal Premier League and his presence is expected to add significant star power to the competition. The former Australia opener has enjoyed an illustrious international career, winning the ODI World Cup twice, along with the 2021 T20 World Cup and the 2023 World Test Championship.
Although Warner retired from international cricket, he has continued to be a major attraction in franchise cricket around the world. The 39-year-old has featured in some of the biggest T20 competitions, including the Indian Premier League, Big Bash League, Pakistan Super League, The Hundred, Major League Cricket and the Caribbean Premier League.

His aggressive batting style and ability to dominate attacks from the opening over have made him one of the most recognisable T20 players of his generation. His arrival is therefore expected to generate considerable excitement among Nepalese cricket fans.
Warner also expressed his excitement about travelling to Nepal and joining the Kathmandu Gorkhas. In his message, he said he hoped the Nepal Premier League could bring joy and give people something to come together, particularly after what has been a difficult period for the country.
The 2026 edition of the Nepal Premier League is scheduled to take place from October 26 to November 21. Warner’s signing could prove to be a major boost for both the Kathmandu Gorkhas and the league as they continue to expand their international profile.
