The Indian cricket team, who last played the five-match Test series against England in the United Kingdom (UK), is all set to return to action. The Suryakumar Yadav-led Team India will kickstart their
calendar with the Asia Cup 2025, set to be played in the UAE from September 9 to 28. The continental tournament will be played in T20 format, barring Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s appearance.
It is to be noted that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired from T20I after the side’s T20 World Cup triumph in 2024 in Barbados. Months later, they senior duo announced retirement from Test cricket and now remain active only in ODIs. They will return to action in the Australia series, set to be played in October.
Virat Kohli undergoes fitness test in London: Reports
Ahead of the international calendar, the players of the Indian team had undergone fitness tests at the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. Players like Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah, among other passed the fitness tests, veteran batter Virat Kohli was a notable absentee. But recent reports have revealed that Kohli undertook the test in London and continues his training there.
According to a Dainik Bhaskar report, the 36-year-old hadtaken permission to take fitness test in London, which was overseen by strength and conditioning coach and physiotherapist. This news hit the fans hard as they flooded social media, hitting at the BCCI for special culture prevelant in the Indian team. With this, it became first instance that a player was tested abroad.
Speaking of the Indian cricketer, the batting stalwart will return to action in the ODI series against Australia, set to be played next month.
